  • Christmas letter

I am about to do a brand new thing.”   Isaiah 43:19a

“Impossible odds set the stage for amazing miracles.” –Unknown

God has begun a brand new thing in our lives by adding two sons to our family. Marcos and Alberto (Beto) came into our lives last year when Al visited Lily of the Valley Orphanage II in Chihuahua, Mexico. While we were telling God of our willingness to adopt if that was His plan and asking Him to move financial mountains, these two boys were praying and asking God to let them come here; none of us knew what the others were doing. Through a series of divine interventions, God brought them to us on November 22, just two weeks and one day from the time we heard that they might actually be adoptable. We stand in awe at what HE has done and covet your prayers on our behalf.

Other brand new events this year include: Rayanna’s graduation from Moody Bible Institute in May and  a new job at Crossway Books; Ben’s graduation from Hart High School as valedictorian and subsequent studies at Purdue University-Calumet, (go Boilermakers?); Andy’s first Christmas away from home…he’s in Iraq; David‘s  new skills on the saxophone  and his opportunity to perform with Ludington High School show choir even though he attends Hart full-time; Maggie ‘s horse riding lessons ; and Al’s participation  in  PRISM, a weight –loss group which meets at our church  which has changed his life. We rejoice at what God has done.

We anticipate that next year will bring other brand new things in our lives: Jenny’s Master’s Degree from University of Illinois, Chicago (the first in our family!), Dorothy’s associates degree is just 3 weeks away, but the new diploma should arrive in January; Matt may have a brand new job out of state…we’ll keep you posted; Marcos and Beto will be experiencing their first Michigan winter, in addition to all the other new things in their lives.  We rejoice at what God will do in and through all of us.

May your Christmas be blessed; may the story of God’s love never grow old; and may the New Year be one which sees God‘s hand at work in each of our lives. To Him be glory forever.
